Gift-giving season is here, and if you’re like me you haven’t even put a dent in your list of gifts to buy. It can be tough to think of great gifts that people will truly appreciate and enjoy! I have a hard time thinking of gifts even for my husband – the person I know best in the world (next to my kids, maybe). Thankfully, it is pretty easy to find tons of gift guides on the inter-webs this time of year. I’ve come across a couple that had lots of great gift ideas (I’ll share at the end).
The idea of practical gifts might evoke memories of gift-wrapped plain white socks and underwear. But practical gifts don’t have to be boring. I love practical gifts because they really do add value and joy to your life. Not that impractical gifts are bad. In fact, an indulgent splurge (like a spa day!) is often just as necessary as the everyday-practical! But it can be tough to think of gift ideas that are fun AND practical. So I’m going to help with that. Here are some practical gift ideas for the working mom. As a working/work-at-home mom, I know these are some gifts I would TRULY appreciate!
Gift Ideas for Working Moms
Help Her with Organization
Sounds pretty ordinary, but a desk organizer can make or break the workspace. I found some incredibly cute ones on Etsy!
Even those who don’t typically work from home might have the occasional need to work away from their office. A mobile office is just a convenient caddy that can hold the essentials (laptop or tablet, notebooks, pens/pencils, calculator, small stapler) and can be easily carried from the main office to any other location. This is perfect for those afternoons when working in a coffee shop is absolutely necessary!
I use the Zip-Top Organizing Utility Tote by Thirty-one. But lots of work-at-home moms in a Facebook group I participate in use this awesome caddy by Craftsman! There are also many craft-caddies that could easily be used for a mobile office. The important thing is to be sure it is big enough to hold a laptop or tablet and a regular sized three-ring binder and has a few pockets for holding pens and such.
I have to admit, I really love paper planners. I’ve tried to go all digital, but I find I am much more organized with my schedule when I use a real paper planner. Last year, I used the Plum Paper Planner and really liked it. In fact, I’m using one again next year as my blog planner.
However, I recently discovered the Passion Planner and I am madly in love with it. It has EVERYTHING I need in a planner and there is just so much to love about it. The best parts, though, are the very detailed guide for accomplishing goals, the broken down to-do list on every week, and their Pay It Forward program. BONUS: You can download planner pages for free to test-drive before you buy. BUT, that doesn’t come with the awesome goal planning pages.
Stocking Stuffer Ideas: Planner Accessories (pens, highlighters, bookmark), cute note pads, desk calculator.
For Her Home Office
Laptop or Tablet
This is just one of those things that we often don’t replace until we really-really need to. My laptop is so old that the battery does not work at all anymore, so I’ve got to be plugged into the wall at all times. And a replacement battery costs just as much as a new laptop!
Yes, wall art is practical. I am far more productive in a space I enjoy. I know this from experience since my husband and I gave our home office a face-lift earlier this year. And anything that boosts productivity AND looks beautiful is sure to be a win!
Here are a few super cute pieces I’ve found around the web.
A desk chair is one of those things that many of us just can’t bring ourselves to splurge on! I don’t know why – a comfy, ergonomic desk chair can make a HUGE difference in your comfort level while working, which makes it easier to sit and work more productively. But I say this as I sit in a cold, vintage metal desk chair that is the opposite of comfortable…
This is one of those office accessories you just don’t think about or realize you’d appreciate until you have one! As a work-at-home mom, my office time isn’t limited to daylight hours only. And when I’m up working at 5am, I much prefer the more subdued light of a desk lamp.
Here are a couple of super cute ones!
Stocking Stuffer Ideas: Cute office accessories (binder clips, washi tape, mini stapler, tape dispenser) slippers for the office, candles, earbuds, hand cream/lotion.
Help Her Stay Healthy
Essential Oil Diffuser
I LOVE diffusing oils while I am working. It is a nice alternative to burning candles (which I also love, by the way) that has added healthy benefits. Essential oils can be used for countless things. Headaches, energy, focus and concentration, calm, stress reduction… So many uses! And diffusing is a great way to use them. I’ve got a couple of different diffusers and of the ones I have, I like this diffuser by Greenair best. I’ve also heard great things about this diffuser by ZAQ.
Drinking water throughout the workday supports focus and energy. And for me, keeping a bottle of water nearby helps me stay away from other types of drinks that may not be so healthy. I’ve got a Bobble bottle, which is nice because it has a built in filter.
Drinking a cup of coffee is an important part of my workday start-up routine. Probably the MOST important part! In the afternoon, I like to have a nice, big cup of hot tea. And I just love a cute mug.
Here are some unique options.
A Nice Lunch Box
Even for moms who work from home, packing a lunch can have great benefits. It saves you time during lunchtime. It entices me to eat the healthy lunch I packed rather than reach for a less healthy, but convenient option. And it helps me remember to eat lunch! I’m not usually the type to forget to eat, but sometimes I only remember when I’m completely famished! That’s when I’m most vulnerable to make a less healthy lunch choice.
Here are some healthy, BPA-free, plastic-free lunch boxes.
Is this a thing? YES it is!! I couldn’t believe it when I first heard of a treadmill desk, but they do exist and I have to admit — I’m intrigued!
Stocking Stuffer Ideas: Healthy Snacks, coffee, hot tea, lip balm, essential oils.
These are just some of the gifts I know I would love and appreciate as a working mom. What would you add to this list? Share in the comments!
